Ivar Bern

Ivar Bern ( born January 20, 1967) is a Norwegian chess player. He won the 2006 World Championship in correspondence chess.

Correspondence Chess

1986 Berne Member of the Norwegian correspondence chess federation. In 1988 he won the Norwegian correspondence chess championship. In 1991 he received the World Correspondence Chess Federation ICCF the title of International Master, he was Grand Master in 1993. His Elo rating in correspondence chess is 2649 out of 168 rated games.

The qualification for the finals of the 17th World Championship, he reached through a third place in the semi-finals 1989/95 and a fourth place in the 3/4-Finale. The final round began in March 2002. Bern took for this tournament a year and a half -year sabbatical and analyzed according to own data day and night. He did in 16 games put together is not more than five inaccurate trains. In January 2006 he stood at 10.5 out of 16 points are the winners. Although he was tied with the German Wolfgang Rohde and Joachim Neumann, but because of the better standings, he became world champion. He was the youngest ever support this title. Curiously, he was never " the reigning world champions," since at the time of his tournament victory, the generation by Joop van Oosterom 18 World Cup was over already for almost a year because it was held in contrast to the 17 World Cup by e -mail, and trains therefore faster were transmitted.

OTB

In OTB chess Bern won three times the Open Norwegian Championship, namely 1986, 1989 and 1990. Closed In the Norwegian championship he won in 1989 and 1990 3rd place 1988 and 1992 he represented Norway at the Chess Olympiad. In 1992 he was awarded the title of FIDE International Master. With the club Bergen Chess Club he won five times the team championship of Norway ( 1994, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003). His current Elo rating is 2331 (as of October 2008).

Journalist

In the newspaper Bergens Tidende, he serves the chess section.

Private

Berne works in Pedagogical- Psychological Service in the city of Bergen. He also played as a guitarist in the rock groups The Swamp Babies and Syv. He has a son named Balder.
