Ivo Samkalden

Ivo Samkalden ( born August 10, 1912 in Rotterdam, † 11 May 1995 Amsterdam ) was a Dutch lawyer and politician of Partij van de Arbeid ( PvdA), who are both members of the Second Chamber and the First Chamber of the States General and Minister Mayor of Amsterdam and state ministers.

Life

Study and professional activity in the colonial administration

After visiting the Hogereburgerschool Samkalden graduated from 1929-1936, a study of Indology and economics at the University of Leiden. A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at Leiden University, he joined in March 1938 with the degree of Dr. jur. with a thesis on Het college van gedelegeerden uit de Volksraad from.

For his achievements as a university teacher and politician Ivo Samkalden was also awarded several domestic and foreign orders.

In 1958 he was awarded both a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion and the Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire. In 1966, the award of Commander of the Order dignity of Orange-Nassau, both before he received the dignity Commander of the Order of the Netherlands Lion and the Cross of Honour of the House Order of Orange in 1977.
