J/24

The J/24 is a sporty keel boat with good sliding properties. It is in the leisure sector, but mainly used internationally as a small regatta yacht. Due to the high proliferation also World and Continental Championships will be sailed.

History

As Rodney S. Johnstone in 1976 wanted to build a fast, easy to sail boat for his children, stood in his yard as only his garage. Nevertheless, he was on May 15, 1976 its first hand-built J/24, the " RAGTIME ", with the dimensions of his American garage to water.

The first sailing season with the new boat was such a huge success that Johnstone gave the order to build a mold for mass production. The boat with the hull number 2 was completed in March 1977. The demand was so great in 1978 that a class association was founded. 1981 J/24 of the ISAF (now ISAF) explains the international class.

Today, the J/24 With approximately 5,500 boats to the largest keelboat one design classes in the world and is represented on almost every continent.

Continental and World Championships will be sailed annually and almost every outstanding sailor has recorded some successes in the J/24 class in his resume.

General

Sailed is usually with a crew of between four and six people. The ship is but mastering from a crew of two sailors. The J24 has no backstays. The Sailed consists of jib, genoa, mainsail and spinnaker. In the J/24 regattas mostly of five people (up to 400 kg crew weight) will be sailed. The boat is trailered in a segelfertigem weight of 1,330 kg.
