Jack Gregory (athlete)

John Gregory ( John Arthur "Jack" Gregory, born June 22, 1923 in Bristol, † December 15, 2003 in Bristol ) was a British- English sprinter and rugby winger district. He was a 1948 and 1952 to the British team in the Olympic 4 x 100 - meter relay and came to a use for the English rugby union team.

Gregory went to his graduation in 1941 as a fitness trainer ( Physical Training Instructor ) for the British Army. In 1945 he was stationed at Huddersfield and completed a game for Huddersfield, Rugby League, for which he was later expelled by the British Association Rugby Football Union. He studied after the war in Dublin, where he played for the Dublin Wanderers and also, in 1946, to two selection operations for the Royal Army. In addition, he was from 1947 to 1949 total Irish title on the two short sprint distances ( 100 yards and 220 yards). Before the 1948 Olympic Games promoted both the British, and the Irish team to Gregory, through the intercession of the British forces, he was only suspended for the year 1948 by English rugby union federation and went to the United Kingdom at the Olympics.

At the games in London, he competed in the season and won with Jack Archer, Ken Jones and Alastair McCorquodale the silver medal. In Helsinki in 1952, he was employed again in the British sprint relay, which just missed the medals in fourth.

Between games, he was a successful rugby union club selection and player. Just two weeks after his suspension, he came to his first and only use for the English national team on January 15, 1949 against Wales at the Five Nations, 1952 and 1953, in addition to one mesh inserts for Babarians. Until his career end of 1954 he scored in 129 games 73 trials and a total of 225 points.

After his playing days he became a sports commentator at Harlech Television, the regional division of the British television chain ITV in Wales and the Bristol area, as well as sports columnist at the Bristol Evening Post.
