In contrast, ruled Justin Chang from the magazine Variety: " Breastfeeding the renewed appetite for revisionist canvas fantasies (...), Jack and the Giants feels - not surprisingly - to be like trying to capitalize on the trend of capital, re- excavated fairy tale characters, to show situations and fight scenes with a mechanical and tiring predictable effect. " Manohla Dargis of The New York Times assessed the similar: "In the end, these are just a digitally inflated one-dimensional version of Jack and the Beanstalk. " Wrote Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times that " Bryan Singer's version of the old fairy tale has everything you can buy for money - except a good script ."

The German Film Magazine cinema ruled cautiously optimistic: " Opulent and action-packed fantasy tale in a traditional style "
