Jakob II. Bernoulli

James II Bernoulli ( born October 17, 1759 in Basel, † July 3, 1789 in St. Petersburg, also Jacob II Bernoulli ) was a Swiss mathematician and physicist.

His father was Johann II Bernoulli and his uncle Daniel Bernoulli.

James II Bernoulli studied law in Basel and, after unsuccessful applications for a professorship in physics Secretary of the imperial ambassador in Venice.

1786, he was an adjunct of the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg and 1788 ordinary academician of Mathematics.

In 1789 he married Charlotte Euler, a daughter of Johann Albrecht Euler and granddaughter of Leonhard Euler. After two months of marriage, at the age of 29 years, Bernoulli drowned in the Neva.
