Jakob Immanuel Pyra

Jacob Immanuel Pyra ( born July 25, 1715 in Cottbus, † July 14, 1744 in Berlin) was a German poet of the Enlightenment. Pyra was known among other things for its anti Johann Christoph Gottsched pamphlets. In his poems he is attributable to the sensitivity.

1734-1738 studied Pyra theology in Halle. In addition, he worked as a private tutor and founded an association for the promotion of the German language and was co-founder of the first Halle poetry circle. In 1742 he was vice-principal at the Berlin Köllnischen school.
