Jakob Schegk

Jakob Degen Jakob Schegk also Johann Jacob Brucker Schegk Jakob Scheckius (* June 6, 1511 in Schorndorf, † May 9, 1587 in Tübingen ) was a German jurist, physician, philosopher, and besides Clemens Timpler one of the most important representatives of the Protestant Scholasticism.

Life

After his matriculation in 1528 in Tübingen, he was in 1529 Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Medicine in 1539. 1540 married sword Corona Vogler and 1543 he was professor of medicine. Although he did not became a professor of philosophy, but he held in medicine and philosophy lectures. Despite his blindness in 1577, he continued to teach. His two sons died early ( David Schegk 1576 Jakob Bernhard Schegk 1581).

It was because of his attitude to the ubiquity of the philosopher Simon Simonius - attacked by a font of 1566 - Amadeus also Curtius Ticinensis.

One of his students was Nicolaus Taurellus and he was the patron of the philosopher Hieronymus Wolf

His 1578 painted portrait brings ten years later Erhard Cellius on the idea of establishing a university portrait collection, which is today called Tübingen Professor gallery.

The artist Jost Amman created in 1581 as a woodcut portrait of him.
