Jalal Al-e Ahmad

Jalal Al -e Ahmad (Persian جلال آلاحمد Jalal Al- e Ahmad, born December 2, 1923 in Tehran, † September 9, 1969 ) was an Iranian writer of modernity. He has written many novels, among other things, novellas, short stories and essays. He also translated several literary works by European authors into Persian. His work is characterized by a socially critical attitude and an ironic, sometimes sarcastic narrative style. Āl -e Ahmad was married to the literary figure Simin Dāneshwar.

Life

Jalāl Āl -e Ahmad was born in 1923 the son of a Shia religious scholars in Tehran. After attending a state school and training as a teacher, graduating in 1946, he studied Persian literature at Tehran University. He then joined the Tudeh Party, of which he later distanced himself but again. Later he supported the national movement for self- management of Mossadegh's oil economy of the country. After Operation Ajax Al -e Ahmad was imprisoned for several years.

In 1950 he married the literary figure Simin Dāneshwar. Until 1962 he published five volumes of short stories, three novels, several essays, travelogues and monographs in which he lives and the culture of the poor in the remote areas of the country, such as the island Charg documented.

In his works Āl -e Ahmad addressed, inter alia, the superstitions of the common people and the Westernization of the country. His 1962 essay published Gharbzadegi had great influence on the intellectual discourse in Iran. There he describes the Westernization of Iran as a disease, but the adoption of Western ideas and things successes also thoughtless. Only the Shia clergy ( the lawyers ) would deprive themselves this influence. These designs were mainly due to the development of Ali Shariati's finally to the theoretical basis of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Jalāl Āl -e Ahmad died in 1969, according to his wife Simin Dāneshwar from poisoning by the SAVAK.

According to him, the Jalal Al -Ahmad literary award of the Iran Book House is named.
