James Bernard Reilly

James Bernard Reilly ( born August 12, 1845 in Pinedale, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, † May 14, 1924 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1879, and again from 1889 to 1895, he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Reilly attended the public schools of his home. In 1862 he graduated from the Bunker Hill School in Pottsville. After studying law and his 1869 was admitted to the bar he began in Pottsville to work in this profession. Between 1871 and 1875 he was district attorney in Schuylkill County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1874 Reilly was in the 13th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican James Dale Strawbridge on March 4, 1875. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1879 two legislative sessions.

According to the preliminary end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives James Reilly practiced as a lawyer again. In June 1880 he took part in Cincinnati as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. In the years 1881 and 1882 he applied unsuccessfully for two judges each item in his home district; In 1884, he sought unsuccessfully to return to Congress. In the 1888 elections Reilly but was then re-elected in the 13th district of his state in Congress, where he replaced Charles N. Brumm on March 4, 1889. In 1894 he was not re-elected.

Between 1896 and 1900, Reilly U.S. Marshal for the Eastern part of the state Pennsylvania. After that he worked as a lawyer again. In 1913, he unsuccessfully sought the place of a judge at the Superior Court. He died on 14 May 1924 in Pottsville.
