James Gamble (congressman)

James Gamble ( born January 28, 1809 in Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, † 22 February 1883 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1851 and 1855 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Gamble attended the public schools of his home as well as the Jersey Shore Academy. After a subsequent study of law and its made ​​in December 1833 admitted to the bar he began in Jersey Shore to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1834-1836 he was county treasurer; in the years 1841 and 1842 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1850 Gamble was in the 13th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Joseph Casey on March 4, 1851. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1855 two legislative sessions. These were shaped by the events leading up to the Civil War. Since 1853 Gamble represented as the successor to William Henry Kurtz the 15th district of his state.

In the years 1859 and 1860 he was district judge in Clearfield County; 1868 to 1878, he served as Chief Judge of the Court of Appeal in Lycoming County. James Gamble died on 22 February 1883 in Williamsport.
