James Henry Garland

James Henry Garland ( born December 13, 1931 in Wilmington ) is Bishop Emeritus of Marquette.

Life

James Henry Garland received on August 15, 1959, ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on June 2, 1984 Titular Bishop of Garriana and Auxiliary Bishop of Cincinnati. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Cincinnati, Daniel Edward Pilarczyk, on July 25th of that year; Co-consecrators were the Nicholas Thomas Elko, Weiherzbischof ad personam in Cincinnati, and Edward Anthony McCarthy, Archbishop of Miami.

On October 6, 1992, he was appointed Bishop of Marquette and introduced into the office on 11 November of the same year. From his office he resigned on 13 December 2005.
