James Loy

James Milton Loy ( born August 10, 1942 in Altoona, Pennsylvania ) is a retired American Admiral and Commandant of the Coast Guard, former Acting Minister of Internal Security and business managers.

Biography

After schooling he joined in 1960 in the U.S. Coast Guard a. He studied engineering at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and earned there in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science (BS General Engineering ). A later post-graduate studies in history and Administrative Studies at Wesleyan University, he completed a Master of Arts (MA History and Government). Another post-graduate degree in Public Administration at the University of Rhode Iceland, he graduated with a Master of Public Administration (MPA ).

During his service in the Coast Guard he was in 1994 as Vice Admiral commanding the Atlantic region (Coast Guard Atlantic Area) and then from 1996 to 1998 Chief of Staff of the U.S. Coast Guard. After that was finally from 1998 to 2002 as an admiral commander of the Coast Guard ( Commandant of the Coast Guard ). For his military services he was twice awarded the Legion of Merit.

After adoption of active service with the Coast Guard in 2002 he was first as Administrator Head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a federal agency within the portfolio of the Ministry of Internal Security, based in Washington DC, which is responsible for public safety in traffic. Already in the following year he was appointed Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security ( Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security) and has held this post until 2005. As such, he was from February 1 to February 15, 2005, Acting Minister ( Acting Secretary of Homeland Security).

After his retirement from government service, he joined the private sector and since 2005 has been both a board member of the defense and technology company Lockheed Martin and Senior Advisor of The Cohen Group, which is engaged in consulting and lobbying.
