University of Rhode Island

The University of Rhode Iceland, (URI), is the leading public university in the U.S. state of Rhode Iceland. The main campus is located in Kingston, Rhode Iceland. Other sites are located in Narragansett, Rhode Iceland (RI ), Providence, RI and West Greenwich, RI. The URI has approximately 14,000 students. The URI is a "land -grant ", "sea -grant " and "urban -grant " institution.

History

The University was originally founded as a school of Agricultural Sciences of the State of Rhode Iceland under the name Rhode Iceland College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in 1892. Two years later graduated to the first 17 students from the College. The Morrill Act of 1862 provided the first source of funding for the newly established College represents the resulting benefits ( agricultural grant ) were used for the establishment of agricultural education institutions in all states of the USA. Later, the URI funds from other federal education funds, the sea grants and urban grants received. The first university location was the Oliver Watson Farm, which housed an agricultural school since 1888. The farm is open to visitors on the main campus in Kingston. 1909, the school was renamed in Rhode Iceland State College and expands the range of subjects. In 1951, the College was renamed the University of Rhode Iceland. Since 1981, the Board appointed by the Governor of the State of Governors for Higher Education of the Supervisory Board of the University.

University partnerships

The International Engineering Program (IEP ) is leading in the design of university partnerships in the field of engineering and business administration. In addition to other programs with other European universities, there is the possibility of a double diploma with TU Braunschweig in which the possibility of acquisition of the Master of Business Administration or Master of Science for the Brunswick students. The URI students study in return for some time in Germany. There is also a university partnership with the Department of Economics study of the HAW Hamburg.

High school sports

The URI sports team, the Rams. Their colors are dark blue, light blue and white. Your teams will, inter alia, in the NCAA Division I ( Division 1 -AA for football ), which Atlantic 10 Conference and the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association.

The sports center at the University funded 22 university teams and 17 sports clubs. The high school sports are a number of facilities, including the 7700 -seat basketball arena Ryan Center, the 8000 seats large Meade Stadium, Keaney Gymnasium, the Mackal athletics center, the Tootell Aquatic Center, the Boss Hockey Arena, the URI Soccer Complex, the Beck Field and URI Softball Field. Other facilities are open to all students, for example gyms, an indoor track, swimming and diving pools, 12 tennis courts, 2 beach volleyball courts.
