James MacGregor Burns

James MacGregor Burns ( born August 3, 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an American political scientist and historian. Burns taught "Leadership Studies" and was Woodrow Wilson Professor of Political Science ( emeritus) of Williams College, where he earned his degree. Later, Burns worked at the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership, University of Maryland, College Park.

Life

1938 Burns gained his bachelor 's degree from Williams College. He worked for some time as a member of the Democratic Congress member Orrice Abram Murdock. From 1943 to 1946 Burns worked as a historian of U.S. forces in the Pacific. In this capacity, he is a Bronze Star and four Battle Stars were awarded for his part in the capture of Saipan, Guam and Okinawa. After returning from the war he continued his studies at Harvard University where he continued his doctorate was awarded in 1947. He then taught "Leadership Studies" at Williams College. 1958 candidate Burns unsuccessfully for a seat on the House of Representatives for the Democratic Party.
