James T. Walsh

James T. Walsh ( born June 19, 1947 in Syracuse, New York) is an American politician. Between 1989 and 2009 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman William F. Walsh was his father.

Career

James T. Walsh was born about two years after the end of the Second World War in Onondaga County. He graduated in 1966 at the Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse. In 1970 he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany. Then he served 1970-1972 in the U.S. Peace Corps. Walsh was Managing Director. He sat 1977-1988 in the Common Council of Syracuse, where he held between 1985 and 1988 the post of President. Politically, he belongs to the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1988 for the 101st Congress Walsh was in the 27th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George C. Wortley on 4 January 1989. He was re-elected once. In 1992 he stood as a candidate in the 25th electoral district of New York for the 103rd Congress. After a successful election, he stepped on 4 January 1993 the successor of Sherwood Boehlert. He was re-elected six times in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 2008, he retired after the 3rd of January 2009 from the Congress.
