James William Guercio

James William Guercio ( born 1945 in Chicago, Illinois ) is an American musician, songwriter, record producer and former owner of the record label Caribou Records.

Early years

Guercio moved mid-1960s to Los Angeles and established himself first as a studio musician, as a songwriter thereafter. His first success as a songwriter, he scored with the song "Distant Shores ", which was a top 30 hit for the duo Chad & Jeremy. For his compositions he used the name " Jim Guercio ."

Guercio was taken by Columbia Records as a producer under contract and worked with The Buckinghams.

Chicago and further success

During his time at college Guercio friendship had made with Walter Parazaider, who invited him in 1968 to his new band "The Big Thing " to listen.
