Jamie John Ward ( born May 12, 1986 in Solihull ) is a Northern Irish football player who is currently with the English second division club Derby County under contract. Since 2011 he is also active for the Northern Ireland national team.

Career

Torquay United FC and Chesterfield

Originally from the youth academy of Aston Villa Jamie Ward moved on 7 March 2006 on loan to the English fourth division Stockport County and played until the end of season nine league games ( one goal). After his contract was not renewed at Aston Villa, he signed on 6 July 2006 a three-year contract at Torquay United. After nine league matches in the Football League Two took place on 31 January 2007, the next club moved to FC Chesterfield. With his new team Ward rose (9 games / 3 goals) at the end of the season from the Football League One 2006/ 07 from. Ward scored in the subsequent season twelve league goals and increased this number 2008/ 09 with fourteen hits in the first round, before he moved to second division club Sheffield United on 19 January 2009.

Sheffield United and Derby County

With United he finished the Football League Championship 2008/ 09 as a third party and then moved into the play-off final. In the 0-1 defeat against Burnley substitute in the 58th minute Ward was sent off in the 80th minute with a second yellow card of the field. After seven goals and an eighth place in the 2009/10 season, was 2010/11 for both Ward and Sheffield United disappointing. On 17 February 2011 he joined on loan until the end of the season for league rivals Derby County. Since Sheffield was relegated to the third division and Ward was able to convince in Derby, the club signed him on 9 May 2011 on a firm contractual basis.

The Football League Championship 2011/12 Ward played as a regular player in the team of trainer Nigel Clough. Shortly before the end of the season he was equipped with a new two -year contract.

Northern Ireland national team

10 August 2011 Jamie Ward denied after Substitutes 83 minutes for David Healy his first cap for the Northern Ireland national team in a 4-0 home win over the Faroe Islands.
