Jan Matouš

January Matous (* May 30, 1961 in Vrchlabí ) is a former Czechoslovak biathlete. He participated in several Olympic Winter Games and Biathlon World Championships.

January Matous was a successful biathlete in the 1980s and one of the best biathletes of Czechoslovakia his playing days. He went to for SKP Jablonec Rudá Hvězda. In the Biathlon World Cup in Falun, he ran for a single to sixth place and for the first time in the top ten. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, he reached good results in ninth -placed in the sprint, tenth there, and a sixth -placed in the relay. The Biathlon World Championships in 1985 and 1986 brought good results. In 1985, he came in Ruhpolding on the courts 17 in singles and 26 in the sprint, 1986 at Holmenkollen in Oslo, he finished 13th in singles and fifth in the sprint. In his best year as a biathlete 1987 he was third behind both Frank -Peter Roetsch and Fritz Fischer in the World Cup and third in singles at the Biathlon World Championships 1987 in Lake Placid. In Borovets he even won an individual World Cup. In the sprint, he was 13 in 1998 launched Matous for the second time, now in Calgary at the Winter Olympics and achieved positions 16 in the sprint, 14 in the pursuit and was eleventh in the relay race with the season of Czechoslovakia. Another international success managed the Czech at the Biathlon World Championships 1990 in Oslo, where the team competition behind the team of the GDR, he won the silver medal with Tomáš Kos, Ivan Masařík and Jiří Holubec. Also in Lahti Matous could reach at the Biathlon World Championships in 1991 as a fifth in the team competition one last good result at a major event. After the season, he ended his active career and began working for the Czech association.
