Jan Wojnowski

January Wojnowski (born 23 December 1946 in Torzewo; † 9 February 1990 in Bydgoszcz ) was a Polish weightlifter.

Career

January Wojnowski grew up in Torzewie. He attended a grammar school in Bydgoszcz and then joined the army. The only 1,58 m wide and about 60 kg athlete came there to weightlifting. His coach was Krzysztof Beck. The greatest success he achieved, was winning the European Championship in the Olympic triathlon in 1961 in Sofia featherweight and two world titles in the snatch. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he finished fourth place at featherweight. January Wojnowski had in his weight class in their own country in Mieczysław Nowak, Henryk Kozlowski Trębicki and Rudolf tough opponents. He nevertheless won three Polish championship in the featherweight and placed 15 Polish records.

January Wojnowski died already with 44 years.
