Jankowice, Kętrzyn County

Jankowice ( German Jankenwalde ) is a village in Poland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in the community Srokowo. To the mayor's office Jankowice part of the village Niedziały.

Geography

The village is located about 14 kilometers south to Kaliningrad Oblast. The village Srokowo in which the municipality seat is located about five kilometers to the north.

History

The first mention of today's Jankowice dates back to 1409, when the village mayor by the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order Ulrich von Jungingen received a support. These were probably due to large problems in the settlement. 1785 there was including the associated Barbican in the village 10 houses, in 1817 there were 15 181 inhabitants. 1925 lived here 162, 1939, 184 people. On April 1, 1929, the Jankowice being annexed by the District Baumgarten in the rural community Drengfurth ( Srokowo ). 1970 were registered 147 inhabitants. In the village there was a four-year primary school. For newly formed Office Schulz Jankowice were 1973 three villages. Today Niedziały only part of the mayor's office.

Traffic

The village is situated on a side road that leads to the south of the village Winda and the North East, not far from Srokowo in the Province Road 650 ( droga wojewódzka 650). Another road runs in a north- westerly direction through the village and ends in the village Ogródki Wikrowo also in the Province Road 650

The nearest train station is located about twelve miles south in Kętrzyn.

The nearest international airport is the Kaliningrad airport about 90 kilometers north of Jankowice on Russian territory. About 200 kilometers to the west lies the Lech Walesa Airport Gdansk, which is the nearest international airport on the territory of Poland. The airport Szczytno - Szymany is located about 75 kilometers south of Jankowice, but has only seasonal international aircraft movements.
