Janusz Zajdel

Janusz Andrzej Zajdel ( born August 15, 1938 in Warsaw, † July 19, 1985 ) was a Polish writer. He is one of the most important science fiction authors of Poland.

Life

Zajdel studied physics at the University of Warsaw Faculty of mathematics and physics, he worked in a laboratory as a nuclear physicist in radiation protection. At the beginning of the 1980s he was among the founders of the Association of Solidarity in which it is established.

Zajdel debuted as a writer with the novel Tau Wieloryba, which was published in the journal młody technology. Later, he published more than 50 novels.

The first novel, Lalande 21185, he published in 1966, Prawo do powrotu in 1975. His novel Cylinder van Troffa was published in 1980. In the book, a totalitarian society organized was described later, the main theme of Zajdels works. This he founded in Polish science-fiction literature Subgattung found numerous imitators as Krzepkowski Andrzej Marek Oramus and Maciej Parowski.

Zajdels works have been translated into numerous foreign languages, including German, English and Russian. In 1973 he was awarded the prize for his Magnum Trophaeum published in młody technology stories. 1980 was followed by a prize of the Ministry of Culture for Cylinder van Troffa, 1984 Złotą Sepulka for Wyjscie z cienia. In the same year he received the Sfinks Prize for the novel Paradyzja; after the death Zajdels the price in the Janusz A. Zajdel Award was renamed.
