Jari Mäenpää

Jari Mäenpää ( born December 23, 1977 in Finland) is a singer, guitarist and founder of the melodic death metal band Wintersun. From 1996 to 2004 he was also a singer and guitarist of the Viking and folk metal band Ensiferum.

Biography

Jari Mäenpää is the founder of the band Wintersun in which he sings and plays guitar. On this debut album Wintersun he also played synthesizer and electric bass; for performances he has formed a live band. Prior to joining Wintersun, he was a member of the Viking metal band Ensiferum, which he joined in 1996 after emerging from his previous band Immemorial. In the beginning he had Wintersun planned as a side project to Ensiferum, but in January 2004, he left the band since the recording time in the studio with which collided with a tour of Ensiferum. In 1997 he was called up for the Finnish military. In an interview he said he had not enjoyed it and was suffering from tuberculosis at the time why he was several months in the hospital and his parts of the lungs were surgically removed. He was also a member of the Symphonic Black Metal band ARTHEMESIA.

Guitars

In Ensiferum he played, among others, a DXMG Dinky, a guitar from Jackson in Transparent Green. For the recording of the first Wintersun album he used the Jackson and additionally a quite atypical for Metal Tokai Telecaster ( copy of a Fender guitar ) to put in some songs to have a "dirty Western Sound." Live he uses often the Paul Gilbert PGM 301 Ibanez. For the second album Time it merely wants to use a Ibanez Jem (Steve Vai Signature guitar).

Amplifier

For the rhythm guitars comes as an amplifier ( amp ) of the Triaxis Preamp Mesa / Boogie as preamp to use, which he connected with the Simul-Class 2:90 power amp ( power amp ) Mesa / Boogie and a Mesa / Boogie Cabinet has. About the equipment used for the lead guitar nothing more is known.
