Järpen

Järpen is a place in the historical Swedish province of Jämtland County Jämtland County today.

The village is located about 70 kilometers northwest of Östersund and is the main town of the municipality of Åre.

In Järpen the Järpströmmen, the outflow of Kallsjön in the Indalsälven opens.

Infrastructure

In the south of Järpen the European route 14 runs from Trondheim to Östersund. Järpen has a station on the Mittbanan, from where there are regular services to Östersund, Trondheim, Stockholm and southern Sweden. In Järpen is the only high school of the municipality of Åre. Attached to the school is a Skigymnasium, are among its most famous graduates Andre Myhrer, Ylva Nowen and Fredrik Nyberg.

Attractions

1.2 km northwest of the center is the Järpe skans, which was built from 1677 to 1700 and thus the oldest building Järpens is.
