Jaruco

Jaruco is a municipality and a city in the Cuban province of Mayabeque. By 2010, the municipality belonged to the defunct province of La Habana.

It was founded in 1762 by Spaniards as Ciudad Condal de San Juan Bautista de Jaruco and has about 20,400 inhabitants (as of 2003). The city is located inland, halfway between the capital Havana and Matanzas in the northwest of the province. An attractions there is the Parque de Escaleras Jaruco, a landscaped park interesting.

The Benedictine order was given in 2009 by the Cuban government Jaruco assigned as a seat for a monastery. However, the allocated land proved unsuitable for a new monastery, so that the Community continues in Havana their makeshift seat has (as of 2011).
