Jasnières

The wine-growing area Jasnières is an enclave in the north -east of the area Coteaux du Loir in the Loire wine region. The area is located about 40 km north of the city of Tours, and thus north of the region Touraine. Further east the vineyards of the Coteaux du Vendômois connects. The appellation Jasnières enjoys since July 31, 1937 the status of an AOC.

Growing area

The vineyards with about 61 hectares of vineyards are located north of the river Loir on the orographic right side on a clayey limestone with flint inclusions. The open-minded limestone base dates from the era of the Turonian and is called tuff. The about four kilometers long and only a few hundred meters wide area in hillside location with ideal southern exposure is the best section ( Cru ) of the region Coteaux du Loir. The vineyards spread over the municipalities of Lhomme and Ruillé -sur -Loir. The name of the area has the hamlet Jasnières halfway between the two communities. The area is one of the northernmost areas of the Loire wine region. The climate is protected from northerly cold air through the nearby forest Forêt de Bercé.

The wine region is divided into the 25 -acre Clos de Rebgarten Jasnières in Lhomme and surfaces in the Vallée de la Veuve in Ruillé -sur- Loire. In this valley, but only about 40 ha are used by potentially 400 ha certified vineyards. The area had fallen into the 1960s, almost forgotten. The low point was reached in 1968 with a harvest of 67 hl.

-Ons and extensions

Developed a very durable white wine is made from Chenin Blanc ( Pineau de la Loire also called ), which is usually dry, even when the berries are affected by the noble rot Botrytis cinerea exclusively. Only in very warm years and sweet wines are made.

The vine density of 5500 vines per hectare, the maximum yield is 52 hl / ha; an amount that can be corrected depending on year of birth up to 63 hl / ha. The gate is also very low and is highly regulated. In the year 2002 2240 hectoliters of wine were pressed.

Tasting notes

The wine can be at least 15 years, but in most cases several decades will be stored and should be enjoyed at a drinking temperature 9-11 ° C.

The wine has brilliant bright yellow color and has floral and fruity aromas with mineral notes. Older wines get additional aromas of dried fruits and honey. In particularly good years, sweet wines come about that can withstand the comparison with other sweet wines of the Loire region.
