Jastarnia

Jastarnia [ jastarɲa ] ( German Heisternest ) is a town and a seaside resort in the middle of the Hel Peninsula (also called Puck Spit ) separating the Gdańsk Bay of the Baltic Sea. Jastarnia has about 4,000 inhabitants and is located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland.

History

Originally Jastarnia evolved from two settlements, from what is now known as Jastarnia of Puck / Puck Heisternest and from Bór / Danziger Heisternest. The Danziger Heisternest was inhabited by Protestants, while the residents of Puck Heisternest were Catholic and Kashubian languages ​​. Even today, the dialects are to be distinguished in the districts.

The construction of the railway Reda - Hel in 1922 and a separate port Jastarnia made ​​within a short time became a popular seaside resort.

Jurata

Jurata established itself as a seaside resort, as a terrain Society 1923 180 ha comprehensive piece of pine forest on the Puck Bay leased to build a resort there. Jurata quickly evolved into a popular and exclusive resort for wealthy vacationers. Even today it is a seaside resort with a high standard.

After the German conquest of western Poland in 1939 and the annexation of Pomerania, the company was forced to cease operations and their assets were expropriated. The Wehrmacht took over the holiday houses Jurata as an officer rest house and rented it to the families Wehrmacht. The hotel operation was set. As part of the Germanization of the place names Jurata received the unhistorical before 1920 unknown German name Hela Heath, of not prevailed in everyday use even the German-speaking residents and vacationers.

Even after the war obtained the original owner their ownership of the system does not return, but the Polish military used it as a holiday resort for members of the armed forces. Today the plant is used for civilian again. The former villa of the President of the Second Republic of Poland and another of the original wooden houses are preserved and display boards explaining the history of the plant. The in the 1970s, built multi-storey building with apartments are partly already restored and partly privatized apartments.

Traffic

Despite the exposed position Jastarnia is connected across the railway line Reda - Hel to the Polish railway network. People train to Gdynia there is almost hourly.

The place can be reached via a bike path that opens up the entire Hel Peninsula.
