Jayavarman VI.

Jayavarman VI. (* In the 11th century, † 1107 ) was from about 1080 until his death King of the Khmer Empire of Angkor.

Among his predecessors Udayadityavarman II and III Harshavarman. there were sometimes internal quarrels and fights. Even wearing one from an unsuccessful war against the kingdom of Champa. Harshavarman III. probably reigned at Angkor during this revolt that eventually Jayavarman VI. , probably a former vassal, brought forth as the rightful king.

Jayavarman came from the area of Phimai ( province of Buriram, Thailand) in the valley of the Mun. It seems, judging by the name of his home town after being a usurper and founder of a new dynasty, the Mahidharapura been. In early inscriptions of his reign he claims to be descended from a mythical couple: Prince Sage Kambu Swayambhuva and his sister and wife Mera.

Jayavarman VI. was certainly endeavor during the first period of his reign about the stalwarts of the old dynasty and line of Harshavarman III. to think of Angkor in check and on his side. He is regarded as the builder of the temple at Phimai.

Jayavarman VI. died in 1107 and posthumously received the name Paramakaivalyapada. Was succeeded by his elder brother, Dharanindravarman I.
