Jean-Allarmet de Brogny

Jean- de Allarmet Brogny (* around 1342 in Brogny in Annecy, † February 15, 1426 in Rome) was Cardinal Bishop of Ostia, Archbishop of Arles, bishop of Geneva, Viviers.

Life

Jean de Brogny was born around 1342, the son of a farmer near Annecy. He studied at Avignon, and his doctorate in 1379 in civil law. He was a confidant of Robert of Geneva, the future ( counter-) pope Clement VII, whose chaplain and chamberlain was. He was Bishop of Viviers in 1382 and 1385, Cardinal Priest of Santa Anastasia. From 1381 to 1387 he was a member of Datarie, 1389-1391 rain the Penitentiary and 1391 until his death head of the papal chancery. In 1409 he broke with Pope Benedict XIII. and concurred with the Council of Pisa. Between 1415 and 1417 he headed the Council of Constance. From 1410 to 1423 he was administrator of the archbishopric of Arles and 1423 Administrator of the Diocese of Geneva. He donated the Maccabees Kollegiatskapelle in Geneva, where he was buried, the Dominican monastery in Annecy and the College St- Nicolas d' Annecy in Avignon, which he bequeathed his library.
