Jean-Christophe Spinosi

Jean -Christophe Spinosi ( born September 2, 1964 Corsica ) is a French conductor, violinist and founder of the Ensemble Matheus.

Life and career

Jean -Christophe Spinosi discovered at the age of 13 years due to a recording by Nicolaus Harnoncourt historical performance practice and dedicated then a part of his music lessons learning the baroque violin. Inspired by the conducting style of Pierre Dervaux he founded the "Ensemble Matheus ," which primarily specializes in instrumental and vocal music of the 17th and 18th century and was originally founded in 1991 as the " Quatuor Matheus ". In particular, with the leadership of instrumental works and operas by Antonio Vivaldi that earned Spinosi international reputation. In addition, he conducted performances of Mozart's least - and Rossini operas.

As a guest conductor Spinosi led numerous orchestras, such as the Trade & Haydn Society in Boston, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the German Symphony Orchestra in Berlin. the Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, Orchestre de Paris, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Orchestra and others. He has conducted, among others, to the Parisian houses Châtelet and the Théâtre des Champs- Elysées, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, New York's Carnegie Hall, the Salzburg Festival, at the Royal Albert Hall and at the Vienna State Opera.

As a conductor of vocal works, he worked with singers such as Cecilia Bartoli, Sara Mingardo, Jennifer Larmore, Sandrine Piau, Simone Kermes, Marie- Nicole Lemieux, Nathalie Stutzmann, Philippe Jaroussky and Matthias Goerne.
