Jean de Tournes

Jean de Tournes (* 1504 in Noyon, † 1564 in Paris) was a French printer and publisher.

Life

Tournes was born in Noyon, and opened about 1540 a printing house in Lyon. Tournes became famous for its ornate book designs. He published notable editions of Francesco Petrarca ( 1550) and Vitruvius ( 1552) and gave the collection of poems by Louise Labé out ( 1555). His son of the same Lyon had to leave because of his relationship with the Huguenots in 1585. He went to Geneva, where he continued the business.
