Jean Morlet

Jean Morlet ( born January 13, 1931 in Fontenay -sous -Bois, † April 27, 2007 in Nice ) was a French geophysicist. He was a pioneer of the wavelets.

Morlet studied from 1952 at the Ecole Polytechnique and then worked for Elf Aquitaine in the Ölprospektion. The mid-1970s he joined it in the analysis of seismic signals with Gabor transform based on wavelet functions for which he is also the namesake (French Ondelette for small wave ). In 1982 he published about 1984, he led the Croatian- French physicist Alex Grossmann, the wavelet transform is a (Continuous Wavelet Transform CWT).

In 1997 he received the Reginald Fessenden Award of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the 2001 Prix Chéreau Lavet the Académie des Technologies.
