Jean-Pierre Ricard

Jean -Pierre Cardinal Ricard ( born September 26, 1944 in Marseille) is Archbishop of Bordeaux.

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy Ricard received on 5 October 1968, the sacrament of Holy Orders. On April 17, 1993, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Pulcheriopolis and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Grenoble. He received his episcopal consecration Robert Cardinal Coffy on 6 June of the same year.

On July 4, 1996, he was first Coadjutor Bishop in the Archdiocese of Montpellier and on 6 September the same year bishop of this diocese. On 21 December 2001 John Paul II appointed him archbishop of Bordeaux after he was elected during the year to the President of the French Episcopal Conference, and member of the Congregation of the Faith and of the Pontifical Commission " Ecclesia Dei ". Pope Benedict XVI. took him in solemn consistory on 24 March 2006 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Agostino in the College of Cardinals to.
