Roman Catholic Diocese of Grenoble-Vienne

The Diocese of Grenoble -Vienne (Latin: Dioecesis gratianopolitanus - Viennensis Allobrogum ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in France. It now includes the Department Isère and the Canton of Villeurbanne Rhône department.

History

In the 4th century the diocese was erected. Middle of the 5th century, it was incorporated into the ecclesiastical province of Vienne. 1779 was the transfer of parts of the diocese to the newly established Diocese of Chambery. As part of the restructuring in France as a result of the French Revolution took place in 1801 extended the addition of the territory of the former Diocese of Saint- Dié and parts of the dissolved diocese of the Archdiocese of Vienne and Gap. 1822 the bishoprics and Gap Saint- Dié were rebuilt so that Grenoble ceded these territories.
