Jeff Cotton

Jeff Cotton ( born May 31, 1948 in Porterville, Tulare County, California ), also known as Antennae Jimmy Semens, is an American guitarist. He is known especially for his work with Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band and with Mu side slide guitar, he also plays bass clarinet and bass guitar.

Career

1962 drew Jeff Cotton with his parents to Lancaster. Age of 14, he founded the band Merrell & The Exiles together with Merrell Fankhauser, who had several surf hits with The Impacts, and his high school friends Greg Hampton and Jim Ferguson. Later, John French was one of the band. After the band had disintegrated in 1966, Cotton played at Blues In A Bottle (along with John French, Mark Boston, and later Bill Harkleroad ). 1967 Cotton was guitarist for Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band and succeeds by Ry Cooder. Beefheart missed him the stage name Antennae Jimmy Semens. After working on the legendary album Trout Mask Replica, there were disputes over Beefheart's " management style " and Cotton left the band in 1970, after he had assaulted him and broke several ribs Jeff Bruschell, the then temporary drummer of the Magic Band.

After his recovery, he founded in 1970 with Merrell Fankhauser, Randy Wimer and Larry Willey, the " legendary" band Mu After an unsuccessful album and ausbleibendem commercial success also this band broke up in 1975. Recordings from 1974 for a second album were not published until the 1980s. Disillusioned by the music industry took Jeff Cotton his vocation in the Christian priesthood.
