Jeff Merkley

Jeff Merkley ( born October 24, 1956 in Myrtle Creek, Oregon ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. Since January 2009 Merkley represents Oregon in the U.S. Senate.

Life

Merkley was born in 1956 as the son of Darrell and Betty Merkley. After leaving school at the David Douglas High School Merkley began studying at Stanford University, from which he graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor Degree International Relations. In 1982 he received his master's degree at the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. In January 1999, Merkley succeeded in gaining as an MP in the House of Representatives of Oregon, where he remained until January 2, 2009. From January 2007 to January 2009 he was Speaker of the House of Representatives from Oregon. Since January 6, 2009 Merkley Senator of the United States.

Merkley is married and has two children.
