Jefferson - Beaverhead -Red Rock River

The Jefferson River is a river in the U.S. state of Montana. He is one of the two rivers from their confluence in the Missouri Headwaters State Park is created in Three Forks of the Missouri River.

The Jefferson River is with his right source river Beaverhead River ( 126 km ) and its source river Red Rock River ( 151 km ) 375 miles long and has its source west in the Centennial Mountains (Rocky Mountains ), near the North American watershed of the border to Idaho.

Red Rock River

The Red Rock River rises on the southeast slope of Mount Jefferson ( 3109 m), directly on the border with Idaho, in Brower 's Spring. The source is located at about 2750 m and is recognized as the origin of Missouri. It is named after Jacob V. Brower, who in 1896 declared the Missouri origin and provided them with an engraved copper plate. The Red Rock River flows first to the West and then further to the north. It flows through the Upper and Lower Red Rock Lake and the Lima Reservoir ( Lima Reservoir ). Passing the village of Lima, the river runs parallel to Interstate 15 in Clark Canyon Reservoir ( Clark Canyon Reservoir ) of the Red Rock River unites with the coming of the West Horse Prairie Creek to the Beaverhead River.

Beaverhead River

The Beaverhead River runs parallel to Interstate 15 in Dillon It flows north-easterly direction. Just south of the town of Twin Bridges takes the Beaverhead to the Ruby and unites north of the village with the Big Hole River to Jefferson River.

Jefferson River

The Jefferson River now flows further to the northeast, and is about 2.5 kilometers southwest of the town of Trident by the confluence with the Madison River to Missouri. The city of Bozeman is located 46 kilometers south-east and the town of Three Forks seven kilometers south-west of the confluence of the two rivers.

The Jefferson River was named in 1805 by Lewis and Clark in honor of U.S. President Thomas Jefferson.
