Jeffrey Dell

Jeffrey Dell ( born May 7, 1899 in Shoreham- by-Sea, West Sussex, England as John Edward Flowers Dell; † 24 February 1985 in Haslemere, Surrey, England ) was a British film director and screenwriter.

Life and career

Jeffrey Dell, born 1899 in Shoreham- by-Sea, West Sussex, late twenties began to write screenplays for the cinema. 1932 emerged as deferred payment of Lothar Mendes, a film drama starring Charles Laughton and Maureen O'Sullivan in the lead roles. In 1935 he delivered for Zoltan Korda, the draft of the screenplay for Adventure Bosambo with Paul Robeson and Leslie Banks.

At the beginning of the 1940s, he took himself to the director's chair and filmed including his own screenplay 1944 Do not be afraid with Richard Greene and Patricia Medina.

In 1947 he founded, together with the film producer Julian Wintle production company Independent Artists Ltd..

In 1951, he staged his own production company in the occupation of Edward Underdown, Maxwell Reed, Natasha Parry and William Hartnell the crime film The Man in Black. The film music was composed by Hubert Clifford.

Jeffrey Dell wrote in his career some 30 screenplays and directed himself led several times. On February 24, 1985 Dell died in Haslemere in Surrey.
