Jens Jørgen Thorsen

Jens Jørgen Thorsen (* February 2, 1932 in Holstebro, Denmark, † 15 November 2000 Waaxtorp, Sweden) was a Danish painter and illustrator and film director and screenwriter.

Biography

After a year studying architecture Thorsen began an artistic career as a painter. From 1951 to 1956 he studied art and was incidentally a bricklayer's apprentice. He was also a jazz musician and co-founder of Papa Bue 's Viking Jazz Band. From 1954 to 1963 he was cultural and artistic staff of the Social Democrats, as well as art critic for the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. Thorsen also designed for some Danish publications appropriate illustrations and wrote himself as an author on topics in the field of art books. In 1970 he produced his first feature film Quiet Days in Clichy, an adaptation of the novel by Henry Miller. In 1971, he wanted to produce a film about Jesus, but because of what Blasphemievorwürfen led to violent protests. Only in 1992 he realized a Jesus film, but did not achieve significance ..

After his death he was buried in the cemetery Assistance ( Assisting Kirkegård ) in Copenhagen's Nørrebro.
