Jermaine Pennant (2007)

Jermaine Lloyd Pennant ( born January 15, 1983 in Nottingham ) is an English footballer of Jamaican descent. The winger is currently without a club.

Club career

At the age of 15 years Pennant left his hometown club Notts County and moved for € 3 million at Arsenal. His professional debut for the London he gave on 30 November 1999 in a League Cup match against Middlesbrough FC. Pennant was then 16 years and 319 days, the youngest player ever to be run for the first team of Arsenal FC. In the meantime, however, this record was broken by Cesc Fàbregas. In the coming months Pennant was indeed used in the League Cup, his debut in the Premier League, however, remained out for the time being.

In order to gain match practice, he was loaned to the beginning of 2002 for a month at the Watford FC, for which he completed several games in the Football League First Division, then the second highest English league. After his return to Arsenal FC Pennant was on 24 August 2002 his debut in the Premier League when he came off the bench in a game against West Ham United.

At the end of 2002, Pennant was loaned again to the Watford FC. After he returned to Arsenal in February 2003, he was in May 2003 for the first time in the starting lineup of London. 6-1 win against Southampton Pennant had a spectacular debut, and scored 3 goals. This should, however, the only goal to remain in his time for the " Gunners ". For the season 2003/ 04 Pennant was awarded again, this time at Leeds United. Originally designed for two months while lending was gradually extended until May 2004.

In February 2005, Pennant was loaned to Birmingham City who took him in spite of his traffic offenses and the resulting prison sentence in April 2005 permanently under contract. In the team of his new employer, he was in the right midfield a fixed size and played in the 2005/06 season all 38 Premier League games for Birmingham, but could not avoid relegation in the Football League Championship.

On 26 July 2006 Pennant moved to Liverpool, where he wrote for four years. For the Reds, he ran among others Champions League Final 2007 in which Liverpool AC Milan defeated. After Pennant in the 08/ 09 season was only three stakes in the Premier League, he was loaned on January 20 at the Portsmouth.

For Season 09 /10 Pennant moved to Spanish side Real Zaragoza. There, he played in 25 games his first year in the Primera División. August 31, 2010 Jermaine Pennant changed for half a year on loan to the English first division club Stoke City.

National team career

Despite disciplinary problems Pennant played 24 games for the English U-21 National Team, including three games at the U- 21 Championship 2002 in Switzerland. He is one of the five players with the most appearances for the English U-21 team.

Others

Pennant was sentenced in 2004 to a 16 -month driving ban after he had gotten into London on the wrong track. On 23 January 2005 he came again in London in a traffic stop in which an elevated blood alcohol level was found. Pennant was not sentenced at this time again in possession of a driving license and was therefore due to drunk driving, 90 days in prison. Of these 90 days, he was serving a total of 30 days and was then paroled. After his release from prison, he had to wear an electronic ankle bracelet, which he was not allowed to put on the pitch.
