Jerzy Ziętek

Jerzy Ziętek (pseudonym: Jorg ) ( born June 10, 1901 in Szobiszowice (now Gliwice - Zatorze ); † November 20, 1985 in Katowice ) was a Silesian- Polish politician and Polish officer last brigadier general.

In 1919 to 1921 he was actively involved in the rebellions in Upper Silesia. Among other things, he fought in the Third Silesian Uprising in the 8th Company of the 3rd Battalion Gliwice. Ziętek was first Zugsturmführer then company commander. He fought several times on the front lines and took part in the fighting around Laband, Alt Cosel, Januschkowitz, Slawentzitz and St. Annaberg. In his memoirs he writes bitterly of the inglorious attitude that was part of the British negotiators met with the rebels against all. "Everywhere one met our liberal proposals with aversion, the British politicians have driven it to the top. Among them, the David Lloyd George was particularly inglorious behave as he said he could not give a monkey a clock but because that makes them broken, which would in his opinion the monkey Poland and Silesia clock ".

1922 to 1939 he worked in the self-government of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. In 1939 he fled from the Germans in the Soviet Union, where he took part in the Polish Army there were formed after 1943 in the fighting against the German Wehrmacht. In 1945 he became a member of the PPR, then the PZPR.

In the years 1945-1950 he was Vizewoiwode the Silesian Voivodeship ( WojewĂłdztwo Śląsko - Dąbrowskie ), 1950-1964 1 representative from 1964 to 1973 and then chairman of the National Woiwodschaftsrats in Katowice. In the years 1973-1975 he was voivode in Katowice and at the same time from 1963 to 1980 Member of the State Council, whose vice chairman, he was from 1980 to 1985.

He was several times member of the Polish Sejm, first from 1930 to 1935 as deputy BBWR, then from 1947 to 1952 as a member of the Constituent Sejm and from 1957 to 1985 as a deputy in the II to VIII period. In 1971 he was appointed brigadier general.

He died on 20 November 1985 in Katowice.

In coordination of Gazeta Wyborcza, he was voted the second most important of the 20th century Silesian Wojciech Korfanty and before the film director Kazimierz Kutz.
