Jim Dale

Jim Dale, actually James Smith, ( born August 15, 1935 in Rothwell, Northamptonshire ) is a British actor, singer and comedian.

Life

Dale began after the service in the army a career as a stand-up comedian. He had, among other engagements as a warm- Upper at a variety show. In addition, he worked as a pop singer and songwriter, his producer was George Martin, who later became producer of The Beatles. 1963 Gerald Thomas gave him a supporting role in the carry -on- film Carry on - this weary taxi driver ( Carry on Cabby ). It was intended as a one-time role, but even though it was only a bit part, he came with the audience so well that he was engaged for the next carry-on film and from then on was an integral part of the carry -on troupe. In 1966 he has his only musical a million -selling hit " Georgy girl", music by Tom Springfield, sung by The Seekers. In 1992 he played the title role in the first Carry-on film after 14 years, Carry on Columbus ( German title: Do it again Columbus ). But trying the new version of the Carry-on series failed. End of the 1970s, he was also seen in some Disney movies, including as Dr. Terminus in the fantasy musical Pete's Dragon ( Pete's Dragon).

Today Jim Dale speaks, among other things, the U.S. version of the Harry Potter audio books and the narrator in the series Pushing Daisies. Since May 2006, he plays the role of Mr. Peachum in the Broadway production of Threepenny Opera at Studio 54

From his first marriage (1957-1977) Dale has four children, his son Adam is a cameraman. Since 1980 he has been married to his second marriage.

Honors

In 2003 he was the Queen of the title: awarded Order of the British Empire ( MBE).
