Jim Hiscott

Jim Hiscott ( James Michael Hiscott, born December 4, 1948 in St. Catharines, Ontario ) is a Canadian composer and accordionist.

Hiscott in Canada and studied at the University of Lancaster until 1970 Physics and Mathematics before switching to music. He was from 1970 to 1976 student of Samuel Dolin at the Royal Conservatory of Music from 1973 to 1976 by David and Richard Teitelbaum Lidov at York University.

In 1977 he was awarded a composition prize of the Canadian Federation of University Women. In the same year he became a music producer at Radio CBC Toronto. In 1981 he was a founding member and first president of the Manitoba Composers Association. Together with Peter Allen, Bruce Carlson and William Pura, he founded the same year the IZ music, a Society for Contemporary Music, premiered by several of his works.

Hiscott played on the accordion 's own works, among others at the New Music Festival at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver New Music Society events, the Big Squeeze Festival in Toronto and the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. As a soloist he has performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Niagara Symphony, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
