Jim McDaid

James "Jim" McDaid (Irish Séamus Mac Daibhéad, born October 3, 1949 in Termon, County Donegal) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

After school he studied medicine and was after graduation as a Medical Doctor ( MD) worked as a doctor.

His national political career began as the candidate of Fianna Fáil in 1989 with the first election for deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ). In this he represented by four re- elections until November 2, 2010 the constituency of Donegal North East.

After the electoral success of Fianna Fáil, he was appointed on 26 June 1997 by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Bertie Ahern as Minister for Tourism, Sport and Leisure in the Cabinet. As part of a reshuffle Ahern appointed him on 18 June 2002 Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport. This meant that he had to retire due to this office as " junior ministers " from the cabinet. On 4 October 2004 he resigned from this office.

In early November, 2010, McDaid on his parliamentary seat and brought the government under Brian Cowen so in serious trouble, since it is now dependent on the consent of two Independent for the adoption of a particularly controversial budget.
