Jim Peterik

Jim Peterik ( born November 11, 1950 in Berwyn, Illinois) is an American songwriter and rock musician. As a member of the rock band Survivor, he was co-author of the Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe Award hit single Eye of the Tiger.

Life

Peterik founded the age of 13 with some classmates a first band. During one of their performances he was approached by Larry Millas, if he would join his band. Under the name The Shondels they later recorded a first single for Epitone Records. Peterik meantime had finished school and studied at the University of Illinois. In 1964, the band renamed The Ides of March and received a recording contract. Two years later, they arrived with their singles " You Would not Listen" and " Roller Coaster " first chart positions. Then they switched to Warner Bros., where they in 1970 with "Vehicle" succeeded her biggest chart success, as the single to position two on the Billboard Hot 100 rose.

The band broke up and in the next few years Peterik tried as a solo artist and released in 1976 with " Do not Fight the Feeling " his first solo album. For his doctorate, he toured among other things in the interlude of Heart and Boston. In 1978 he founded with Frankie Sullivan and David Bicker the rock band Survivor. Equipped with a recording contract with Scotti Brothers they had in the following years some small chart hits with "Somewhere in America", " Poor Man's Son " and " Summer Nights ". The breakthrough of the band came in the summer of 1982, after Sylvester Stallone had commissioned the band to contribute the theme song for his movie Rocky III. "Eye of the Tiger" stayed for six weeks at the top of the Billboard charts and was awarded double platinum and Grammy. The composers Peterik and Sullivan received an Oscar nomination. The eponymous album debuted then to position two on the album charts. Also, the 1984 released album " Vital Signs" contained two Top Ten hits in 1985 commissioned Stallone the band again for the theme song to Rocky IV The cokomponierte of Peterik entitled " Burning Heart " reached position two on the Billboard charts. 1988 Peterik left the band.

1990 there was a reunion of The Ides of March in the original line, the band released 1992 and 1997 new albums. In 2003, Peterik with Toby Hitchcock, the band Pride of Lions and in 2006 published a second solo album. Besides being a multi-instrumentalist Peterik has also worked as a songwriter for other artists. He wrote, among other things, for bands such as the Doobie Brothers, Cheap Trick, Lynyrd Skynyrd and REO Speedwagon.
