Jim Schwartz

James J. "Jim" Schwartz ( born June 2, 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American professional American football coach. He is the former head coach of the Detroit Lions in the National Football League ( NFL).

College

Schwartz began his coaching career in 1988 at the University of Maryland as an assistant to the Defense coach with a focus on the line backers. In 1990 he moved to the University of Minnesota, again as Defense Wizard. Again, just a year later, Schwartz moved to North Carolina Central University, this time as coach of the defensive backs. In 1992, Schwartz as the linebackers coach for the Colgate University.

NFL

1993 Schwartz got an offer from the NFL by the Cleveland Browns with them to work as a scout. Schwartz was accepted and from then until 1995 worked as a scout the Browns. Of the Baltimore Ravens got Schwartz in 1995 the offer as an assistant coach to work in the defense which he accepted also.

Until 1998, Schwartz worked before he got an offer as an assistant with the Ravens Defense of the Tennessee Titans. This offer took to Schwartz and remained in the episode worked a long time with the Titans. Schwartz formed at the Titans one of the best Defenses of the NFL with players like Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch. Schwartz had its share because the Titans in 2000 were able to move into the Super Bowl XXXIV, but they lost to the reasons given by Kurt Warner St. Louis Rams. At that time, the Rams were the best team in the NFL. By 23:16 the game was closer than expected lost of many. In 2001, Schwartz the Defense of the Titans, now defensive coordinator. Prior to 2008, he held the position as defensive coordinator.

Then Schwartz was offered the Detroit Lions at them from the 2009 season to work as a head coach and to make the reconstruction of the Lions decisively. The Lions had finished the 2008 season the worst season of NFL history with a record of 0:16. On 15 January 2009 he signed his first contract as head coach in the NFL with the Lions. Previously, Schwartz 2005 had rejected an offer from the San Francisco 49ers. In 2008, he was with other teams as a head coach in conversation, the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins wanted to commit Schwartz, but Schwartz rejected the offers. On December 30, 2013 Schwartz was fired by the Detroit Lions.
