Jiříkov

Jiříkov ( German Georg wood ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is 5 km north of Rumburk on the border to Germany and belongs to the Okres to Decin. The land area is 1331 ha

Geography

Jiříkov is located 368 m above sea level along the creek Knight ( Jiříkovský creek ) in the Bohemian Netherlands and extends north-eastwards to the River Spree, which also represents the state border. To the east, on German territory is the 485 m high mountain Poor. Neighboring towns are Ebersbach / Sa. in the north, Spree village in the east, and Filipov Neugersdorf the southeast, Rumburk in the south and Království in the West.

History

The village was founded in the 12th century during the German colonization. The first mention of Georg forest was in 1346 in parish registers of the diocese of Meissen.

1524 held the Reformation in the belonging to the manorial village Schluckenau feeder. As a result of recatholicization emigrated since 1620, many families in the surrounding villages of Upper Lusatia. Apart from agriculture, linen weaving fed the inhabitants of the village, which was collected in 1753 by Maria Theresa to the market town.

In the 19th century transformed with the beginning of industrialization, the townscape. 1807 was the first cotton mill, the later two more, a loom factory and Wood Factories followed. Together with Rumburg was Georg forest to the center of the North Bohemian textile industry. In 1873 the railway from Rumburg to Ebersbach / Sa. received by the Bohemian Northern Railway. With this now continuous connection of Prague, which is the only railway line to Saxony on the Lusatian Mountains, offered the market town on the border ideal conditions for further industrial development. There was an iron foundry, machine factory and also the Saxon manufacturer August Förster piano dating back to 1900 a branch factory. 1890 lived in Old George Walde 5808 inhabitants, along with the districts of New Georg forest, Philippsdorf Wiesenthal and there were a total of 8,754. 1897 Philipp village was a separate municipality within the jurisdiction Schluckenau.

1914 Georg Walde, whose population had grown to 10,084, awarded by Franz Joseph I. municipal rights. 1930 lived 7,970 people in the city, including the districts. The town was mostly populated by Germans; after the Second World War they were expelled in the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia on the basis of the Beneš decrees.

After the Velvet Revolution was a change in the economic structure, and it settled down service and trading company of. Today in the town is home to a large population of Roma, their share is growing compared to the rest of the population. Here, there were repeated conflicts.

In the city, there is a railway border crossing to Ebersbach / Sa .. For passenger cars, the place has two border crossings to Neugersdorf (main road and Rudolf -Breitscheid- road ) and a Ebersbach ( Bahnhofstrasse ).

The city is divided into the districts Jiříkov Filipov ( Philippsdorf ) Loučné ( Wiesenthal ), Nový Jiříkov ( New Georg Walde ) and Stary Jiříkov (Alt Georg forest ). Basic settlement units are Filipov, Jiříkov and Pod Vyhlídkou

The municipality consists of the Katastralbezirken Filipov u Jiříková and Jiříkov.

Attractions

  • The baroque St. George's Church was built in 1724-1728 according to the plans of Lucas von Hildebrandt instead of a wooden previous building, probably by the architect Johann Georg Achbauer this year.
