Jivina (Mladá Boleslav District)

Jivina ( German: Jiwina ) is a municipality in Okres Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. In October 2008, there were 422 inhabitants.

Geography

The place is surrounded by fields on a ridge between the valleys of the Jizera, the Zábrdka ( Kleiniserbach ) and the Malá Mohelka ( Small Mohelka ). The road from the Monastery and Hradiště nad Jizerou crosses Jivina and via Neveklovice further north towards Osečná.

Neighboring towns are Neveklovice, Mukařov u Jiviny and Mohelnice nad Jizerou in the north and Horni Bukovina, Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou and Mnichovo Hradiště in the south.

History

The written sources record the place name in 1400 as Gywyna, 1529 and 1556 as gewina as giwina vedle neweklowitz. The neighboring Neveklovice belonged to 1920 and from 1964 to 1991 the municipality Jivina. In the 1970s Jivina played a critical function for the surrounding area, Mohelnice, Kozmice, Strážiště, Vicmanov, Borovice, Neveklovice and Mukařov. The merger, however, was dissolved after 1991, so that the municipality Jivina now only a part of the same place.

Since 1891 there is a primary school in town. At the beginning of the 20th century came other cultural institutions, including a amateur stage, a library and an agricultural school, which was until 1948 in operation.

Near the village is the former manor Pachouň, where the residents were Jivinas frondienstpflichtig. Part of the manorial lands were parceled out land reforms in 1922 and 1947 and divided among the inhabitants Jivinas.
