Jo Bonfrere

Johannes " Jo " Bonfrere ( born June 15, 1946 in Eijsden, Limburg) is a former Dutch football player and current coach, who had been coach of various associations in Africa and Asia. Nigeria's Olympic Team, he led in 1996 to the gold medal.

Career

As a player Bonfrere was active for the Dutch club MVV Maastricht; He also played in Belgium for VAV Beerschot. Bonfrere belonged to the national squad in 1974, but was dropped from the squad before the 1974 World Cup.

His coaching career began in 1985 as an assistant at Roda JC. In the seasons 1988/89, 1989/90 and again in 1992/93 was Bonfrere coach of the Belgian KFC Verbroedering Geel. In 1996 he was in charge of the team's Olympic football team Nigeria at winning the gold medal in Atlanta. As a coach, he was then in Qatar, engaged again in Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. 1998 and 2001 he was short periods of time trainer at Al- Wahda in Abu Dhabi; in the 2002/03 season he was with the Egyptian first division side Al- Ahliy Cairo, in which he was released when he was on the last day the championship still out of hand.

In June 2004, he was engaged South Korea as the successor of Humberto Coelho. Bonfrere led with his German assistant coach Robert Jaspert the team confident of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2006, but resigned on 23 August 2005 back by itself after you wanted to talk to him by association page in the team's formation.

From December 2006 to early December 2007 Bonfrere coached the Chinese first division club Dalian Shide; then he returned to his third commitment at Al- Wahda in Abu Dhabi, but was released after less than three months after his team of eight games won only four.
