Joachim Schmid

Joachim Schmid ( born May 21, 1955 in Balingen ) is a German artist, photographer and author of artist books.

Life

Joachim Schmid studied 1976-1981 Visual Communications at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd (now College of Design Schwäbisch Gmünd ) and at the University of the Arts Berlin ( now University of the Arts Berlin). He lives and works as a visual artist, photographer and critic in Berlin.

Work

Many works based on found photographs Schmid, for his work, he coined in 1989, the motto " No new photos until the old ones are used up ." For his extensive work " pictures of the road," he gathers 1982-2012 all photographs found in public spaces. In his contribution to the book Joachim Schmid degli altri e le photography, Italian artist and theorist Franco Vaccari coined the generic term for the work of Schmid's rags Photography.

Schmid's work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad and are in the collections of several museums ( Museum Folkwang Essen, Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam). On the occasion of his first retrospective at the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery in Saratoga Springs, New York was published by Steidl Verlag extensive monograph Joachim Schmid Photoworks 1982-2007.

From 1982 to 1987, Schmid editor, publisher and main writer for the magazine photo criticism. After he set the magazine, he published a number of Künstlerbüchern.2009 he founded ABC Artists 'Books Cooperative, an international network of and for artists who create print-on -demand artists' books.
